A force of 300 Portuguese and 1000 natives was them left there to keep the natives in subjection.

Shortly after this, the Portuguese were attacked by a party of Canarese, and the victory therefore sent Francisco de Miranda Anriques with eight vessels and reinforcements. These arrived in August, and in an engagement that ensued the Portuguese lost 800 men and enemy of 4000.

Anriques, having captured a rich ship from Mecca belonging to the queen of Olala(ullala), she, in revenge, sent a body of men to assist the enemy who now laid siege to the fort of Banguel(Mangalore) and burnt the town. A sharp engagement ensued, in which both sides lost heavily, but the advantage is claimed to have been on the side of the Portuguese. Anriques then made an attack on the fort of Olala, but was repulsed and forced to retire.
