M Babu was born in a Biruva(Billawa) family of Kudroli on 22 August 1881. He was a litterateur, educationalist and a historian.
He passed B.A with first grade in 1905, and started his professional journey as an educator at Govt college Mangalore with a wage of 20rs. At the time of his demise he was a teacher at Mangalore higher elementary training school with a wage of 160rs. He travelled across Tulunad to document the history and archaeology of South Canara district. He has written many books in relation to his field work across Tulunad. Unfortunately he lost his life very early before he got any fame. He was associated with Ullala Mangesharaya and Shri Karnad Sadashiva Rao for several years before his death.
