
Karnad Sadashiva Rao was a prominent Indian freedom fighter and social reformer from Karnataka. He was born to Tulu-speaking family to Ramachandra Rao and Radhabai in the year 1881. He studied in Presidency college,Madras and later studied law in Mumbai.
Freedom Movement
Sadashiva Rao’s involvement in the Indian freedom movement was marked by his participation in various campaigns and activities against British colonial rule. He was inspired by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement.
Social Reforms
In addition to his role in the freedom struggle, Sadashiva Rao was a passionate social reformer. He worked tirelessly to address issues such as untouchability, the caste system, and women’s rights. He believed in the power of education and was instrumental in setting up schools and educational institutions to uplift the marginalized sections of society.
Legacy
Karnad Sadashiva Rao passed away in 1937, but his legacy as a freedom fighter and social reformer continues to inspire generations. His contributions to the Indian independence movement and his work towards social justice and education have made him a revered figure.In recognition of his enduring impact, K. S. Rao Road in Mangalore is named after him, and Sadashivanagar in Bangalore was named in his honour in 1960. Additionally, the locality “K S Rao Nagara” in Mulki is also named after him.
